Best Baby Carrier for Petite Moms: Pick the Size, Get a Snug Fit
by Konny

Short answer: for petite moms, Konny FLEX comes in two sizes, XS-XL for women's US dress sizes 0 to 6 and M-4XL for sizes 8 to 18. You pick it by your pre-pregnancy clothing size, not your height, so a petite mom who wears a US 10 or above takes M-4XL. Konny FLEX is a stretchy baby carrier you pull on like a T-shirt. Unlike bulky carriers, Konny FLEX holds your baby in soft, thin fabric with no complicated buckles, and it weighs 7 oz (195 g). Whatever carrier you choose, follow its maker's size guide and check that it fits snugly.

What a small frame needs from a carrier

Konny's size guide says FLEX should fit snugly: a snug fit spreads your baby's weight and keeps your baby safe, and a loose one can be dangerous and hard on your back.

What to check Konny FLEX
A size for a smaller frame XS-XL fits women's US dress sizes 0 to 6 (UK 4 to 10)
Sized to you, not your baby Choose by your pre-pregnancy clothing size, not your baby's age or weight
A snug fit A size adjuster with settings 1 to 13 tightens it for a snug, secure fit
Little bulk Slips on like a T-shirt, has no complicated buckles and weighs 7 oz (195 g)
Weight spread out Spreads your baby's weight evenly across your torso

Pick your FLEX size by clothing size

Konny sizes FLEX by your pre-pregnancy clothing size, not your baby's age or weight. If your weight after birth is more than 22 lbs (10 kg) above your pre-pregnancy weight, choose the larger size. Two people with the same height and weight can need different sizes because of bust size, so go by your clothing size.

FLEX size Women's dress size (US and Canada) Women's dress size (UK and Australia)
XS-XL 0 to 6 4 to 10
M-4XL 8 to 18 12 to 22

A US 6 to 8 falls between the two sizes. In that case, choose XS-XL if you share the carrier with a slimmer partner. Choose M-4XL if your bust measures over 37 in (95 cm) or you share it with a larger partner.

Check the fit in three steps

Put FLEX on correctly first, then check the size.

Center the back panel and spread both sashes over your shoulders.
  1. Wear it right. Pull the back panel down as far as it goes and center it on your back. Spread the shoulder sashes (the wide fabric straps) over your shoulders like a shawl, with the seams over or behind your shoulder line.
  2. Leave room for your baby. Before your baby goes in, pull the carrier away from your chest. Two to three fists should fit in the space.
  3. Check where your baby sits. With your baby in, their bottom should sit higher than your hips and around or below your belly button. If it sits 2 in (5 cm) or more above your belly button, size up. If it sits lower than your hips, size down.

Once your baby is in, spread the sashes over your baby from thigh to the crook of the knee. The Carrier Wear Guide shows each step on video. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises checking on your baby often in any carrier and keeping their mouth and nose clear of fabric and your body (AAP guidance).

If you are still unsure, send Konny front and back photos of you wearing the carrier through the chat button on the size guide. You can exchange FLEX for the right size within 30 days of receipt, per Konny's exchange policy. An exchange means returning the carrier and placing a new order. You pay the return shipping, and the shipping you paid on the first order is not refunded. Worn items are accepted only at Konny's discretion and carry a $10 return fee.

FAQ

Which FLEX size do I need if I wear a US 0 to 6?

Usually XS-XL. Konny FLEX sizes go by your clothing size: XS-XL fits women's US dress sizes 0 to 6, and M-4XL fits 8 to 18. A US 6 to 8 falls between the two sizes. In that case, choose XS-XL to share with a slimmer partner, or M-4XL if your bust measures over 37 in (95 cm) or you share with a larger partner.

Can a petite mom share FLEX with her partner?

It depends on your sizes. Either parent can wear FLEX. The sharing rule applies between sizes (a US 6 to 8): choose XS-XL to share with a slimmer partner, or M-4XL to share with a larger one. Otherwise, each of you picks a size by your own clothing size.

For later, once your baby can sit up unassisted, from around 6 months per Konny's FAQ, the Konny Dual Support Hip Seat is another option. It is one size for wearers from XS to 4XL, and you keep one hand behind your baby's back when you use it.

Will I need a bigger size as my baby grows?

No. You can keep the same size, because the spandex blend stretches as your baby gets heavier. Buy a snug size from the start.
