The day I received the second sample made from our Konny Carrier fabric, I almost wanted to shout, “Eureka.” It was so much better than I had imagined.
Our earlier sample, made with gauze cotton, felt too soft to hold its shape — let alone absorb drool well. It simply collapsed on itself. But when we tried our signature Konny carrier fabric, everything changed. The structure instantly felt more secure and stable. The scalloped edges held their beautiful shape, framing the baby’s face like a little flower in bloom.
It wasn’t just a great bib — it worked beautifully as a drool pad for our Konny carrier, too. With the sturdier fabric, it stayed securely in place on the carrier. The generous width meant our baby no longer chewed directly on the straps. And thanks to the rolling design, it created a soft barrier between the baby and me, keeping my clothes dry as well. That’s when it clicked. We finally felt ready to answer the requests we’d heard so many times:
“Could you please make drool pads for the Konny carrier?”
As we continued testing the samples, I began to notice something I hadn’t expected
First, the absorbency and quick-drying performance were far better than I thought.
I knew the fabric we developed for the Konny carrier was designed with moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties. But when we used it as a bib, the fast-drying performance felt even more noticeable.
I knew the fabric we developed for the Konny carrier was designed with moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties. But when we used it as a bib, the fast-drying performance felt even more noticeable.
At the time, my second son was drooling like Niagara Falls. I was going through bibs all day long. But with the rolling design, I didn’t have to change it every single time. I could simply turn it. And because the fabric dried quickly, I used noticeably fewer bibs in a day.
Second, it truly stood out in terms of design.
Back then, my second baby mostly wore white hand-me-down onesies from his older brother. Let’s just say his wardrobe wasn’t exactly exciting. But the moment I put the bib on him, he suddenly looked dressed up. Just changing the bib made it feel like a complete outfit. I didn’t see that coming.
The Konny Carrier came in 15 adult-inspired colors and patterns. Since it’s something parents wear, I believed it should reflect grown-up taste. We kept that same philosophy for the bib. No loud dinosaurs or cartoon cars. Just thoughtfully chosen colors and patterns that parents would love too.
During final production discussions, the team suggested a simpler production process. "Right now, our bib is made by layering two pieces of fabric, stitching them into a scalloped ‘petal’ shape, and then turning the entire piece inside out through a small opening. Because of this, the process requires additional time and care. If we switch to a binding finish, sewing a separate strip of fabric around the edges, production could be simplified and costs reduced."
I’ll admit, I was tempted for a second. But when we saw the simplified version, the scalloped edges lost their shape. It didn’t feel special anymore. It just looked like another bib. I knew it wasn’t right.
It didn’t make the cut.
Another challenge was the care label. I couldn’t stand the thought of a long, dangling care label ruining the look. It may seem like a small detail, but to us, it would have been a flaw in an otherwise carefully considered design.
While we were still debating what to do, the production lead said with a wry smile, “There is a hand-tear label available. It costs more, so most brands don’t use it.”
It turned out to be the same label material used by Lululemon— nearly three times the cost. Still, I felt the detail mattered. If it made the experience better for parents, it was worth it.
Figuring out the best spot for the label.
We launched it in gift-ready packaging, and the response was amazing.
It’s been years since launch, and I still read every single review. When parents say it made their day a little easier, I’m reminded why choosing our Konny carrier fabric was the right decision.
Without your continued requests, the Konny bib would never have come to life. The best ideas don’t start in meeting rooms. They start in real parenting moments.
So keep telling us what you need — we’re listening.
Our sweetest little sample tester. Thank you!
