This story comes from Behind Konny, Konny Korea's video series on how its products are made.
Please make sure everyone knows that the bib labels tear off.
"I didn't like how the label kept touching a baby's delicate skin. So while we were talking it over, asking, 'What if we made the label tear off?', a friend I make products with told me there was a label that tears off. That brand was Lululemon. We tested Lululemon's label, and it tore off well. So we said, 'Let's use it too,' and we were the first in Korea's baby products industry to use that label. Tear it off in one quick pull, and the label is gone. Magic!
"This label is on many of the products we make. I think we could try something like this because we know the inconvenience customers go through tearing off labels. And once it tore off, it felt like such a relief."
On Konny's US bib pages, this label is called the Smart Care Label: a tear-away care label for hassle-free comfort.
What else the video covers
- It started with drool. When Konny's founder's second child began teething, the front of every outfit was always wet. Customers were also telling Konny that their babies kept sucking on the carrier. So the bib had to work two ways: as a bib, and as a drool pad that rests on top of the carrier.
- The first bib was cut from carrier fabric. Konny made the first bib by cutting the fabric of its baby carrier, which then came in 15 colors. That fabric soaks up moisture fast and dries fast, and it holds a neat shape instead of crumpling.
- It turns 360°. When one part gets wet, you turn the bib so a dry part comes to the front. While testing it, she needed three or four bibs a day instead of about ten.
- It changes the outfit. The bib covers about half of a baby's upper body, so swapping the bib makes the same onesie look like a different outfit.
- The label was the hardest part. Because of the bib's flower-like shape, the team tested many places for the care label and settled on the small opening used to turn the bib right side out. A visible label still spoiled the look, which led to the tear-away label. On products that touch a baby's skin, Konny uses its softest label, which tears along the middle as well as at the edge.
- Today the bib outsells the carrier. In the video she says Konny sells more than one million bibs a year.
